Since 1998, Joe Copeland has owned the Minuteman Press design, marketing, and printing franchise located at 4185 Sunbeam Road, Suite 100 in Jacksonville, Florida. Over the years, Joe and his team have worked hard on behalf of their customers, followed the Minuteman Press International franchise system closely, and have built their printing business the right way. 1. What specific business advice do you have for franchisees when it comes to succeeding in franchising?
Joe Copeland: “Be prepared to work very hard and listen closely to the guidance that your franchisor provides. You are paying the franchisor for guidance and a formula for success. The more closely you adhere to what you are taught, the more likely that you will be successful.”
2. What are you most proud of overall when it comes to your career in franchising?
Joe Copeland: “I’m very proud to have grown the business from nothing to over $2 million in sales annually. Over a period of just under 20 years, we have gone from 1 employee to 14. We are blessed to have a strong team and a great group of clients.”
3. Please share how you entered into franchising – the path that got you there…
Joe Copeland: “I was fortunate enough to be invited by my parents to join one year after they founded the business. My father was an executive who after various layoffs decided it was time to go out on his own. He realized that the failure rate for new businesses is extremely high, but that this could be mitigated by buying into a franchise. The franchise provides a proven business model and guidance in how to operate a business successfully. It doesn’t guarantee success, but it greatly improves the odds.”
