The Wharton Club of South Florida convened on September 28 to celebrate the naming of Daniel Cane as 2015’s Entrepreneur of the Year.
Cane is the cofounder and CEO of Modernizing Medicine, Inc., an IT company focused on the healthcare industry and working to revolutionize the way providers create, consume, and utilize healthcare information so that they can lower costs, increase efficiency, and improve patient outcomes. Modernizing Medicine was founded in 2010, and now has more than 300 employees. The company has also raised more than $49m in funding.
Modernizing Medicine has been honored by both local and national organizations, such as the South Florida Business Journal and the U.S. Chamber of Commerce. The Business Journal named Modernizing Medicine the Business of the Year in 2012, and then again in 2015.
More than 2,000 alumni from the Wharton School of Business reside in South Florida, and the Wharton Club offers them networking and educational opportunities. According to the Club’s website, they are considered one of the most active and largest alumni networks for business school alumni in the area. While the club’s events focus on opportunities for alumni, many of the events are open to both alumni and guests who are not affiliated with Wharton, as the Club works to network and educate leaders of businesses, with the likes of an advertising franchise likely to benefit in the community.
The keynote speaker at the awards ceremony was Theresa Lawrence, VP of Marketing at Modernizing Medicine. The event was held at FAU Stadium at the Acura Club in Boca Raton.
