Killeen's Fire Station 9 went into operation last Monday, March 6, with the formal dedication make during the week. The new facility will have both EMS and fire response personnel, and serve southwest Killeen.
A new middle and elementary school will open in Killeen in August, and thinking about this has led schoolboard members to consider the district's needs as a whole.
Killeen, Texas, is now home to a branch of an organization dedicated to serving others: Team Rubicon. The organization was started in 2010 after the Port-au-Prince earthquake in Haiti. Now, Killeen resident Keith Schmidt has joined the group's local branch in order to continue his service to the country.

Construction is expected to begin later this summer on a third H-E-B grocery store in Killeen, with a grand opening planned for late spring 2017.
