Model Train Festival about to steam in

November 28, 2012 by

The Model Train Festival is celebrating its 17th annual event in 2012, and this year’s showcase is expected to be bigger and better than ever. The festival has been extended to 11 days and guests will be able to celebrate this season by viewing and enjoying the model train displays from the olden days. Santa might just be planning to make an appearance as well.

At this year’s Model Train Festival, guests will be able to take a ride on the ‘Polar Bear Express’, which will run between the Tacoma Art Museum and the Tacoma History Museum, plus sit on Santa’s knee and have their photograph taken, so Christmas lists should be at the ready.

All the trains on display have been designed and built by model train lovers from across Washington. For children who enjoy building with Lego, a competition has been set up for the Best Train Car, Station, or Engine and will accept entries from children between the ages of 1 and 18. Entries must arrive in person on December 19 or 20. One entry is allowed per person and it needs to be under 14” long and 6” wide. Entries will be on display at the History Lab throughout the festival and first, second, and third place ribbons will be awarded.

Poster printing and flyer printing may have been used to promote this extended festival to members of this community and surrounding regions. Admission is the price of entry at the Museum and everyone is welcome. The Model Train Festival will take place from Friday, December 21 to Tuesday, January 1 between 10:00 am and 5:00 pm at the Washington State History Museum located at 1911 Pacific Avenue in Tacoma, Washington.
