Gilbert and Sullivan Revival Opera opens

February 29, 2012 by

On Saturday, March 16th, until Sunday, March 25th, 2012 the CSTOCK Black Box will presents the HMS Pinafore, an opera by Gilbert and Sullivan at the Silverdale Community Center located at 9729 Silverdale Way Northwest in Silverdale, Washington. This event celebrates Gilbert and Sullivan’s very first hit known by the names “HMS Pinafore” or, as it is otherwise known “The Lass that Loved a Sailor”. This show starts at 7:30 p.m., except on Sundays when it begins at 6 p.m.

This opera has enjoyed a long run with more than 571 performances being staged in England and America, although it has also run, after illegally being copied, by numerous performing arts centers in the United States. This performance is one of the best loved pieces that Gilbert and Sullivan ever wrote as the tunes are well-constructed and loved by all.

This presentation is filled with comedy and gentle satire and was designed to bridge the wall between various social classes. As part of the frolicking comedy, the ship’s captain learns his daughter is in love with a common sailor who was serving on his ship; therefore, he goes about planning the wedding for his daughter with a lord, Sir Joseph Porter. However, as luck would have it, the daughter is not in agreement and in the end it all ends well.

For those not familiar with Gilbert and Sullivan, this is a great way to learn more and enjoy a fantastic night out. Printing companies have supplied the brochure printing, program printing, and ticket printing and tickets are now on sale for this event. Tickets run $12, $14, and $17 per person, depending on the seating location chosen. For additional information, contact 360-692-9940.
