Flags at the ready in Seattle
May 24, 2013 by James
Families in Seattle will be able to celebrate Memorial Day in a novel way, as the Memorial Day Flag Placement Ceremony takes place.
During the ceremony, flags will be placed on each of the 5,000 upright white marble markers in the veterans’ area of the cemetery. Brochure printing, flyer printing, and other printing services have probably been used to promote this event to the public.
Memorial Day in this community is a widely honored and recognized time to visit the veterans’ graves and place special markers, in the form of flags, to honor their years of dedicated service. This year, hundreds of active volunteers and groups are planning to attend and assist with placing the markers in front of the gravestones.
To date, some of the groups planning to participate include the neighborhoods of Fremont, Capital Hill, Lake City, Green Lake, Olympic Hills, Northgate, Queen Anne, Maple Leaf, Bryant, Ravenna, and Roosevelt. Groups participating this year include veterans, churches, local organizations, and scout groups. The organizers are hoping as many people as possible can join in and help honor the people who served to keep our country safe and free. Children are welcome to plant flags as well, and no pre-registration is necessary.
The Memorial Day Flag Placement Ceremony is free to take part in and will be happening on Monday, May 27, beginning at 7:00 am at the Evergreena Washeili in Seattle, Washington. To learn more about this event, please visit the Washelli website or call 206-362-5200 during business hours.
