Exhibit showcases engravings from all over the world

December 25, 2013 by

The International Wood Engraving Invitational is taking place at Davidson Galleries in Seattle from now until February of 2014.

The exhibition will feature more than 150 old and new wood engravings from 50+ international artists. Those taking part include Rick Allen, Simon Brett, and Rebecca Coleman. All of the works are also for sale to the general public.

The show might be interesting to those who work for Seattle graphics and printing companies. Wood engravers use many of the same techniques as those who create woodcuts for printing, so seeing what is going on in the art world currently will no doubt inspire many of those to consider using wood engravings or woodcuts in their own projects.

The Gallery is home to a variety of artworks, including paintings and an antique print department. Representatives will be traveling to the Portland Art Museum in the New Year to showcase and sell many of their holdings at the Portland Fine Art Print Fair on January 31 and February 1, 2014. It is the first year of the fair, which will be held annually and is set to feature prints from 21 dealers and galleries in the U.S., Canada, and Japan.

The Invitational Wood Engraving Invitational is taking place in the Contemporary Print and Drawing Center of Davidson Galleries is open by appointment only from December 26 – 28 and then to the general public from January 2 until February 1.
