Celebrate Earth Day in Carkeek Park
March 29, 2012 by Sarah
On Saturday, April 21st, 2012 Carkeek Park will host its 32nd Annual Earth Day at the Carkeek Park Environmental Learning Center located at 950 NW. Carkeek Park Road in Seattle Washington. This event is being sponsored by the Carkeek Watershed Community Action Project, Seattle Parks, Restore Our Waters, and the Seattle Public Utilities. This event will take place from 8:30am to 12pm.
This great volunteer event is designed to clean up the Carkeek Park area and to provide volunteers with the opportunity to meet and work with other volunteers. Each volunteer will be asked to contribute three and a half hours of work and will be placed in a group of up to ten individual volunteers to complete each project. Volunteers will meet for 30 minutes at Carkeek Park before the volunteer activities begin. At the park, volunteers will form groups, receive designated work areas, gather the materials and supplies required, and receive any instructions necessary before starting their project.
Generally, the projects include recycling/trash pickup, stenciling of storm drains, and filling of containers for water quality testing and information depending on the day’s weather. Another project is the distribution of a letter focusing on Earth Day issues and concerns, no doubt printed by local printing companies, along with any poster printing, flyer printing and banner printing that an event such as this may need.
Each volunteer receives a thank you of discounted Seattle Mariners’ tickets and a free t-shirt from the Perry Sound Starts Here Campaign and the Seattle Mariners. Not only this but there will be free coffee and donuts for everyone. This event is free, but you must pre-register as early as possible by calling Bill Malatinsky at 206-684-5999.
