Olympia Ready For Dragon Boat Festival

April 23, 2012 by

On Saturday, April 28th, The Port of Olympia Plaza, located in downtown Olympia will be hosting the opening ceremonies for the annual Dragon Boat Festival. This event is sponsored by the St. Martin’s University and will begin at 9am.

The 7th annual Dragon Boat Festival will begin at Port Plaza located in Budd Inlet. This annual celebration is expected to bring more than seven thousand spectators to the Washington Dragon Boat Association events. The Dragon Boat Races have been a highlight of this celebration and people from far and wide attend, but there is also other reasons to attend, such as the traditional Chinese Art Demonstrations, the traditional lion dances, the live music, and the numerous martial arts demonstrations. This festival has always been a community celebration with St. Martin’s University posting insights and feature articles on the events and participants, and local print shops will have no doubt been consulted on the poster printing requirements in order to maximise attendance.

Those interested in attending can get a behind the scenes sneak peak by watching the 2010 Dragon Boat Festival Video featured on the university’s website. For anyone interested in making a donation, volunteering time to this event, or to start or enter a Dragon Boat racing team, please call Brenda Burns at 360-438-4521. Dragon Boats are very colorful and a joy to watch as they race to the finish line.

This is a free family-oriented event that is great for all ages. For more information about this festival or how to register, please visit the St. Martin’s University website or call Brenda Burns at 360-438-4521.
