Annual Earth Day event returns to Longview

March 25, 2014 by

The 20th annual Earth Day Celebration is taking place this April. It is presented by the City of Longview.

This event, which is designed to draw attention to environmental concerns, will feature hands-on activities, informational booths, a farmers’ market, environmental exhibitors and entertainment provided by Circus Cascadia. The Ian Dobson Steel Drum Recalypso program is also expected to be on hand, as is the Clear Skies Planetarium and the OMSI Science Festival. Children’s activities will include face painting, a petting zoo, and a climbing wall.

In past years, the celebration has provided free auto emission testing. There have also been special guest appearances from characters such as Smoky the Bear and Whirly Bird.

It should be a fun event for all members of the family and a chance for them to learn all about what they can do to help the environment in their community.

It is possible that representatives from Longview printing companies may be on hand to share information on how environmentally friendly the industry is. Many printers today use vegetable based inks and recycled paper.

The Earth Day Celebration will be held at the Cowlitz Expo Center on April 19 from 10:00 am – 3:30 pm. Admission is free although the donation of a non-perishable food item will be appreciated. For more information, visit the City of Longview’s website.
