Students join Annual Arbor Day Celebration
March 20, 2012 by Mark
On Wednesday, April 11, 2012 Everett, Washington will be celebrating its Annual Arbor Day Celebration at the American Legion Memorial Park located at 145 Alverson Blvd. in Everett, Washington. This event will take place between 1:00pm and 2:15pm. This event is sponsored by the city’s Parks and Recreation Department.
This Arbor Day Celebration, Whitter Elementary School’s Grade 5 students will be joining the staff of the Parks and Recreation department to be the generation that plants many trees, so that the next generation can enjoy their shade. This year the Parks and Recreational Department’s Staff and Whitter Elementary School students will be planting a variety of trees for the future generations’ enjoyment. The mayor, Ray Stephanson will be present to receive a City of Everett Aware from Tree City USA and to oversee the presentation of the Tree Line Aware to Snobhomish County PUD. There is also a student presentation planned during this event. It may seem ironic if flyer printing were a method used to promote such events, as these growing trees will someday become paper in generations to come.
This year, more than 80 communities will receive awards from Tree City USA. These awards are presented to cities for their management of urban forests. These forests must be sustainable, healthy and well managed in order for the community to be considered for the award. This involves protecting the trees, plenty of long-term planning and maintenance, and all kinds of financial support.
This event is open to anyone who wishes to come and watch the activity. For those who would like additional information about this event, or to find out about inclement weather, please call the weather hotline at 425-257-8399 or 425-257-8300, Extension 2.
