Orem holiday revelers invited to enjoy Christmas on the river
December 20, 2013 by Lisa
Orem/Provo residents, visitors, and other interested people are invited to take a 25-minute cruise down the well-lit Provo River this holiday season. The cruise is intended for families seeking to enjoy a uniquely beautiful holiday experience.
The Provo River is born in the mountains east of the Orem/Provo metropolitan area and meanders through the region before eventually meeting with Provo Bay (part of Provo Lake). Residents and businesses along the river put up lights, displays, and other decorations that appear as doubled rippling images when out on the river. Two cruise boats (which accommodate up to 40 people each) will take turns starting in Orem, travel through Provo, and then circle back—all in just 20 minutes.
Passengers aboard the cruise vessel will be treated to thousands of lights from various structures, which are also reflected off the moving water, along with other holiday scenery, Christmas music, and even a visit from Santa Clause himself courtesy of his own small canoe. This makes for a perfect venue for picture taking, which can then be used for postcard printing to send to friends and relatives.
The Christmas cruises are running every 30 minutes during the hours 6:30 pm – 9:00 pm Monday – Thursday, 6:30 pm – 10:00 pm Fridays and Saturdays up until December 23. The cruise does not operate on Sunday. The price is $8 per person. Boats leave from (and return to) the CLAS Ropes Course, 3606 West Center Street, Provo.
