International folk dance festival returning to Orem area
July 14, 2013 by Mark
Orem residents are invited to take part in an acclaimed multicultural event that has become a Utah Valley tradition. In just under three weeks’ time, the annual World Folkfest will be returning to the nearby city of Springville for the 27th straight year. The demand for poster printing may be rising as the organizers of this popular festival work to recruit new attendees.
The Folkfest, which is the largest event of its kind in the United States, will feature 300 folk dancers and musicians from countries around the globe. This year’s lineup will include groups from Chile, South Africa, Taiwan, Martinique, Lithuania, and the Netherlands. The performers will all be wearing bright costumes from their homelands as they impress the crowd with their talents on the stage at Spring Acres Arts Park.
Before the show begins, attendees will be able to meet the entertainers, taste international foods, and peruse a variety of arts and crafts booths for unique souvenirs.
The World Folkfest will take place nightly from Monday, July 29 through Saturday, August 3. It will open at 8:00 pm on the Monday with a street dance and free admission. The festival will open at 6:00 pm on each subsequent evening. The cost will be $8 for adults, $7 for senior citizens, and $4 for children. Discounts will be available for those who purchase ‘World Passports’.
Spring Acres Arts Park is located at 620 South 1350 East. Those who have questions or are interested in volunteering at the festival should call (801) 491-2229.
