Cottonwood Heights wins award

Cottonwood Heights has been awarded the Certificate of Achievement for Excellence in Financial Reporting by the Government Finance Officers Association (GFOA), according to an article on the city’s website.

In its citation, the GFOA says the award is:

“…the highest form of recognition in governmental accounting and financial reporting, and its attainment represents a significant accomplishment by a government and its management.”

The basis for the award is the Comprehensive Annual Financial Report (CAFR) that Cottonwood Heights prepares every year.

The latest honor is not the only time Cottonwood Heights has won this accolade—it has received the Certificate of Achievement for each CAFR it prepared for the last four years.

Most of the recognition that is implicit in the award goes to the single individual who carries the main responsibility for preparing the CAFR. In this case, that person is David Muir, Cottonwood Height’s Treasurer/Financial Reporting Manager. This award was presented to Muir for his work in preparing this year’s CAFR. City officials congratulated Muir for his hard work in preparing the city’s annual financial report.

An impartial panel judges the CAFR to see if it meets the program’s high standards, including whether or not it demonstrates a “spirit of full disclosure” that communicates clearly the financial story of Cottonwood Heights.

Municipalities like this can benefit by working with a newsletter printing company, which can create an informative letter for residents to share interesting information.
