Cottonwood Heights residents to participate in Thanksgiving Day race
November 6, 2013 by Max
Runners of all abilities in Cottonwood Heights have been invited to spend part of their Thanksgiving morning participating in a local athletic tradition.
In the early hours of the November holiday, fitness enthusiasts from the area will be gathering to embark on an annual 5K run. The organizers of the race may be using printing services to create advertisements for this popular community event.
The 5K first took place in 1985. Since then, scores of runners have reported to the Cottonwood Heights Recreation Center at 7500 South 2700 East to begin tackling a course that leads them to Racquet Club Drive and back. In the past, bursts of rain and snow have added to the challenging spirit of the race.
This year, as many as 2,000 people are expected to participate in the festivities. Those interested in running are encouraged to register early to ensure that they get a spot in the race. Registration will start at $25 for adults and $20 for children 11 or younger. A commemorative T-shirt will be included in this price.
The City of Cottonwood Heights will once again be serving as the title sponsor of the event. Granite Construction and Dick’s Sporting Goods have also signed on as sponsors.
The 5K will kick off at 9:00 am on Thursday, November 28. Interested parties may pre-register by visiting the recreation center during regular business hours or by calling (801) 943-3190. They will need to pick up packets the day before the event. Race day registration will begin at 7:30 am and conclude at 8:45 am.
