Cottonwood Heights area farm to hold 5K fundraiser
May 15, 2013 by James
Cottonwood Heights area residents are invited to participate in a country-themed 5K event on the outskirts of nearby Salt Lake City.
This weekend, Wheeler Historic Farm will be hosting a ‘Run to Raise the Roof’ fundraiser. The organizers are likely employing the services of a print company to create promotional flyers and banners for the run and the festivities that will follow.
Proceeds from the 5K will go toward the construction of the Wheeler Historic Farm Center, which will allow visitors to interact with animals and learn about farming indoors. The event is open to participants of all ages, and those who prefer to walk will be welcome to do so.
Attendees will receive bandanas instead of traditional T-shirts when they arrive at the race. They will be placed in divisions according to age. The winner in each category will be awarded a medal, while those who finish second and third will take home ribbons.
After the race, participants will sit down for a hot breakfast. They will also have a chance to go on wagon rides, take part in some sheep-shearing, and enjoy live entertainment. Children will be able to play a variety of games, and there will be a Farmers’ Market featuring fresh fruit and vegetables.
The 5K will begin at 8:00 am on Saturday, May 18. Prospective runners and walkers may still register for a fee of $17 to $20. Wheeler Historic Farm is located at 6351 South 900 East. Those who would like more information may call (801) 264-2241.
