Local street festival returns in time for Mother’s Day

The St. Johns Bizarre street festival is taking place next month in Portland.

The festival always takes place on the second Saturday in May. Six blocks in the St. Johns Business District will be closed off to traffic.

To kick-off the event will be the 55th annual St. Johns Parade beginning at noon, with this year’s theme being ‘A Whimsical Adventure’. Organizers will be accepting applications for entry until May 1. Contact Barbara Legge at 503-515-1287 to learn more.

The six-block festival will feature over 70 arts and crafts vendors who will be selling a variety of handmade items, such as jewelry, paintings, clothing, and ceramics. There will also be several music stages that will feature local musical acts; last year’s involved artists such as Quasi and the Cardboard Songsters. In addition, there will be activities such as yoga demonstrations, dance performances, and children’s entertainment.

The festival will likely be a good place to pick up a unique Mother’s Day gift, or a place to bring Mother as a treat.

To draw attention to their booths, some of the vendors may invest in colorful signs or banners from Portland printing companies.

The St. Johns Bizarre festival will be held in the St. Johns Business District on May 13 from 10:00am to 7:00pm. Admission is free of charge.
