Get bowling to help wildlife

Portland will be looking to strike on June 9 as the Bowling for Rhinos event takes place. Sponsored by the American Association of Zoo Keepers in Portland, the bowling will get underway at Sunset Lanes located at 12770 SW Walker Road in Beaverton, just outside Portland, Oregon. Bowling begins at 3:30 pm and runs through until 6:00 pm.

Bowling for Rhinos is an annual fundraising event for the zoo, where all guests who wish to come out and support a good cause must preregister to participate. This year’s event is in honor of Pete, a popular black rhino who died at the zoo earlier this year.

During this bowling bonanza, guests will be able to enter to win door prizes, as well as purchase raffle tickets for some wonderful prizes. Since the creation of this event, the zoo has raised more than $4,003,344 towards the conservation of rhinos. All of the proceeds from this bowling event go towards these efforts. Funds are overseen by the IRF (International Rhino Foundation) and much of the money raised goes towards protecting the rhinos in Indonesia parks, as they are an endangered species. These parks include Ujung Kulon National Park, located in Java, and Way Kambas National Park in Sumatra. Funds from this event are used to provide protected rhino sanctuaries, which also preserves other species of animals and their habitats as well.

Print companies may have been involved with the promotion of this event to area residents and companies. For additional information or to register for this event, please visit the Bowling for Rhinos website or call Michael Illig at 503-226-1561.
