Pumpkin event Sparks into action next month

Locals can let the pumpkin celebration begin in Sparks, Nevada with the upcoming Pumpkin Palooza.

Victorian Square will be the site for the event, which will include fun activities, such as a pumpkin race in the Pumpkin Derby contest, a costume parade for the children, Haunted School House storytelling, Ghost Train fortune-tellers, and carnival games provided by Circus Circus.

Additional activities will include pie eating, mummy wrap contests, and pumpkin seed spitting. A beauty contest for pumpkins will put the participant’s carving talents to the test.

Live music will be provided throughout the event. Zombie cheerleaders will entertain the audience. The day will finish off with a ‘Lighting of the Pumpkins’ show. A ceremony featuring a spooky fun dance will start the pumpkin lighting at dusk.

This family-friendly event is anticipated by many residents and visitors this year, and is a fundraiser for the Nevada Center for Independent Living. Last year was the inaugural event and attracted more than 1,500 attendees.

The Nevada Center for Independent Living is comprised of a committee focusing on promoting awareness and independence for people with disabilities in Sparks. The committee coordinates communication and actions regarding the disabled population with the Sparks City Council, as well as other agencies.

Festival organizers often use printing services from a local print company. Banner printing is usually a standard project, as banners are needed to guide the visitors to various points within the venue. The banners are often used in parking lots for directional purposes, as well.

Visit the event website for complete information on the event, which takes place on October 19 and 20.
