Unique celebration will ring in 12th Night

December 20, 2016 by

The 12th Night with Orpheus: A Yule concert and Viking feast will take place early next month in Jefferson County.

The event will be hosted by, and is a fundraiser for, the Orpheus Pagan Chamber Choir.

The evening will start off with a concert of Yule carols and songs. The program will include performances of ‘Under the Holly Bough’ by Brendan Graham and ‘The Shortest Day’ by Brian Holmes. Other songs will include ‘Jingle Bells’, ‘Solstice’, and ‘Deck the Nutcracker Hall’ to be performed by the choir.

The concert will be followed by a ‘Julbord’ or Viking feast. This will include some traditional dishes as Swedish meatballs, ham, and braised red cabbage. There will also be desserts such as Black Forest cake as well as mead, ale, wine, coffee, and tea to drink. In addition, there will be a silent auction.

Twelfth Night is celebrated around the world, and is also known as the night before the Epiphany.

The celebration will probably attract people from all over the county, including those from Lakewood. Organizers may advertise by distributing products provided by a local poster printing company.

The 12th Night with Orpheus concert and feast will be held at the Jefferson County Fairgrounds Exhibition Hall in Golden on January 7, beginning at 5:00 PM. Tickets are $49 each or $450 for a table of 10. Call 917-771-0433 to learn more.
