Soli Deo Gloria to Perform December 10th
December 5, 2011 by Sarah
Fans of classical music will be able to usher in the holidays with Colorado Springs’ very own Soli Deo Gloria on December 10, 2011.
Since this is being billed as an evening event, those hoping to attend will need to be at First United Methodist Church Sanctuary by 7:00 p.m. The tickets are free and the schedule features songs that have been proven to resonate with people over the years.
Soli Deo Gloria boasts some 100 choir members as well as the additional support of an organ and orchestra when it performs. With organizers planning to experiment with different musical arrangements, this should make for an interesting twist on several familiar Christmas tunes.
Even without the benefit of the poster printing that’s likely being used to advertise, attendees can be confident that this is going to be a professional performance.
The promotions describe it this way:
“Gloria will be a concert featuring Christmas anthems that one would normally hear in our sanctuaries. Composers include Poulenc: Gloria, Rutter:Joy To The World, Oh Holy Night, Angels Carol, Bassi:Wexford Carol, Wood:Sussex Carol, Shaw\Parker:Fum, Fum, Fum, to mention a few.”
Interestingly enough, the choir itself has a fascinating background. Taken from Soli Deo Gloria’s website, the mission statement makes it clear that the choir is all about promoting its brand of music throughout the community.
Though nobody will be at the door collecting money, people are asked to “bring a non-perishable food item for Springs Rescue Mission”. Between the agreeable price and the minor request, this is an event well worth taking the whole family to.
