Volunteer fair helps match people with non-profit organizations
April 28, 2013 by Sarah
The Volunteer Fair at Rough Point: a Philanthropy Party is taking place in Newport this May, and will help to match non-profit organizations from Aquidneck Island and the surrounding area with those who wish to volunteer to work with them.
It will allow the organizations to match their needs with the skills of those who wish to volunteer with them. Such organizations as the Art and Cultural Alliance, the Middletown Education Collaborative, Beacon Hospice, and Serve RI will be in attendance. The party will feature music from the record collection of Doris Duke and a cash bar.
A lot of non-profit organizations depend greatly on volunteers to help them in their day-to-day administration and to help run events, and no doubt those who wish to volunteer from around the area, including Middletown, will be planning to attend the fair. Organizers will also likely be working with local printing companies to help advertise the fair to the local community, perhaps through brochure, flyer, and poster printing services.
Rough Point is also hosting a related exhibit called ‘A career of giving: the surprising legacy of Doris Duke’. Over her lifetime, Duke donated at least $400 million to various charities, and these piece intends to honor her contribution. The exhibit will be showing at Rough Point until November 9.
The Volunteer Fair will take place at Rough Point on May 15 from 5:00 pm – 7:00 pm. More information can be obtained by calling Liz Spaden at 401-846-4152.
