Bala Cynwyd non-profits celebrate Giving Tuesday

December 1, 2012 by

After the deluge of shopping deals and coupons on Black Friday and Cyber Monday, Bala Cynwyd residents had a chance to give back on ‘Giving Tuesday’.

The idea behind Giving Tuesday was simple. The people behind the day noted that there was a day of thanks, followed quickly by two days of deals. They decided they also wanted a day on which to give back, so Giving Tuesday was born. At the heart of the day is celebrating charitable activities in support of non-profit organizations.

In Bala Cynwyd and the surrounding area, a number of local non-profits participated in the give-back day. Local non-profits who participated included The Parkinson Council in Bala Cynwyd. The Council held a fundraising drive to raise money to support movement classes for people suffering from Parkinson’s disease. Movement classes include dance, yoga, and Pilates.

Another local organization that participated in Giving Tuesday was the JDRF of Eastern Pennsylvania and Delaware. The JDRF made use of social media on November 27 and offered all who made a donation a special gift.

Other local organizations that participated in Giving Tuesday included BreastCancer.org, from Ardmore, and People’s Light and Theater Company, in Malvern. Local branches of national organizations also held events, including the National MS Society and the SPCA. Bala Cynwyd poster printing services may have been made use of to spread the word about the day of charity. Hung in local stores, posters can help to let people know of the various ways to help out at events like this.
