Volunteers needed for RVC Sandy appeal
November 16, 2012 by Sarah
A local trader is calling for help from local Rockville Centre volunteers, to help with an aid project for victims of super storm Sandy. Print shops are likely to be printing posters to help advertise the event later in November.
Robert Jesberger, the owner of an auto repair center in the village, has purchased five trailers full number of non-perishable foodstuffs. He intends to bring a little Thanksgiving goodwill to charities, families, and individuals across Long Island.
The amount collected by Jesberger is expected to feed over 10,000 people. To make the venture go well though, hundreds of volunteers are needed. Providing help in creating the meal bags to be distributed, people are asked to donate a few hours.
The bags will be prepared from midnight on November 20 to 2:00 pm on November 21. It is one of a number of ‘Fill-the-Bag’ events taking place in the area, and is just what is needed to help those recovering from the damage wreaked two weeks ago. Jesberger said:
“Superstorm Sandy left thousands of people desperate and devastated; we need to do what we can to help them out in whatever ways possible.
“Purchasing over $100,000 in food items and hosting the ‘Fill-the-Bag’ event allows my employees and I to continue to pay it forward by providing families with a holiday meal.
“Fellow Long Islanders are looking for a way to help and now they can, by simply giving their time.”
The meal bags will be created and distributed to the needy by a number of charities and other local organizations.
