Motivational speaker’s philosophy borne of experience

October 30, 2012 by

When Port Washington native Steve Maraboli was a teenager, empowerment and achieving goals were not priorities. Not, at least, if they got in the way of his interest in sports and girls. That all changed, however, with a stint in the U.S. Air Force. With a newfound sense of discipline, a sharpened focus and a few hundred dollars for some flyer printing and an 800 number, Maraboli launched his career as a speaker and author.

Despite chalking up speaking engagements in more than 100 countries, hosting ‘Empowered Living Radio’ – an online program with international reach, and serving as Executive Director of the Michael Thomas Research Center for Social & Behavioral Science, the office of Maraboli’s private practice is on Main Street of the town where he grew up.

Perhaps illustrative of how Maraboli defines success, he donates the proceeds of his work outside of the Michael Thomas Center to charity. Maraboli’s philosophy that success is down to a person’s own actions is one of the cornerstones of his consulting work with individuals and businesses.

For all those who have found his books, speeches, workshops or mentoring useful, it is his own journey from indifferent student and distracted young adult to inspirational figure that testifies to the value of Maraboli’s guidance. He can advise others to let go of the past and create the future that they desire because he has done so himself.

Steve Maraboli is the author of ‘Life, the Truth, and Being Free’ and ‘The Power of One’.
