Syracuse to say another hello to quartet
May 4, 2013 by Mark
This weekend, Syracuse Friends of Chamber Music (SFCM) will be welcoming back the Pacifica Quartet to close out their concert season. The group will be performing three pieces: one each by Boccherini, Shostakovich, Smetana.
The Pacifica Quartet was formed in 1994 and wasted no time in winning the Naumberg Prize, a prestigious award for chamber music, shortly thereafter. It has won many other honors and awards since then, including a Grammy, and it was named Musical America’s Ensemble of the Year in 2009.
Since 2010 the Pacifica has been the quartet-in-residence at the New York Metropolitan Museum of Art, and this upcoming season it will be moving to take over the quartet-in-residence position at the Jacobs School of Music at Indiana University. Jacobs has a tradition of great music teachers, listing Josef Gingold and Menachem Pressler among its names.
Organizers for the SFCM might well be looking to printing companies in the area to help with their printing needs. Flyers and other promotional posters could be printed and distributed in nearby towns such as Liverpool, New York, to help draw in greater crowds. Performances such as these usually have programs that are handed out to the guests, and printing companies could help with these as well.
The performance will be held at Lincoln Middle School in Syracuse, New York tonight, May 4. It begins at 7:30 pm. Tickets to enjoy the performance are $25 for the general audience, $15 for seniors, and $10 for students.
