Awards presented to outstanding police officers
November 16, 2012 by James
The Fair Lawn, New Jersey Athletic Club recently hosted an award ceremony for those members of the Fair Lawn Policeman’s Benevolent Association (PBA) Local 67 who made outstanding contributions to the community. The PBA no doubt used flyer printing and poster printing to inform the residents of the community of the many achievements of some of their local officers.
According to Michael O’Brien, PBA president, these achievements ranged from apprehending crime suspects to resuscitating residents. Such achievements make the Fair Lawn community one that lends itself well towards both residential and working lives.
Those who received awards for resuscitating residents were Officers Christoper Siano and Luis Vasquez, who revived Barry Friedman after they found him not breathing, and Sgt. Lonnie Mergler, Detective Sgt. Brian Metzler, and Officer Sean Nagle, who used defibrillation and CPR on a man they found lying face down on 2nd Street.
Honorable Service Awards were given to several police officers who responded to a call of three men who were suspiciously entering a home. The officers found them in a shower with a handgun.
Lt. Bob Kneer received a Meritorious Service Award for apprehending a car thief who was suspected of breaking into vehicles along Route 4. Kneer, who came in on his day off, along with Officer Anthony Lugo and Detective Timothy O’Shaughnessy, was watching the area and they all saw him cross the highway over the divider and jump into a car that was idling at one of the shops while the owner was inside.
