Westerville residents have a chance to go off to see the Wizard
April 16, 2013 by James
Westerville, Ohio residents who have wondered what it is like to be on stage have a chance to find out later this year.
Otterbein University, in conjunction with the Westerville Parks and Recreation Department, plans to produce The Wizard of Oz at the community theater level. The show is a musical, with Otterbein faculty, alumni, and staff leading the effort, and is being presented as a part of the 2013 Year of the Arts celebration in Westerville.
Everyone from the age of 5 to 95 is encouraged to audition. The try-outs will take place April 27, 2013, a Saturday, and audition packets are available now. Hopeful actors can pick them up at the front desk of the Westerville Community Center, and look through the material.
Anyone who wants to schedule an audition should then call the show’s co-director, Matt Wolfe, at 614-823-1657. Wolfe is also on the lookout for volunteers.
If a person is cast in the show, there is a $125 fee. This covers rehearsal materials, acting lessons, a T-shirt for cast members only, and two tickets to the play. Rehearsals are set for the week of June 3, 2013.
The Wizard will run for four performances from August 2 – 4 at Westerville Central High School. Advance tickets will be on sale for $10 each at the Westerville Community Center.
Whether someone is just having fun or hopes to launch a showbiz career, this is a perfect place to start. The show’s producers can encourage participation by working with poster printing experts to create eye-catching posters for display throughout the area.
