Hunt Valley welcomes sci-fi convention
July 18, 2012 by Mark
Shore Leave 34 will take place at the Marriott Hunt Valley from August 3 to 5. Tickets are $85 for the weekend, $30 for Friday only, $60 for Saturday only and $40 for Sunday only. Discounts are available for youth and children.
Shore Leave is a fan-run science fiction and fantasy convention. Guests for this year will include actors Lavar Burton and Kate Mulgrew, both from the Star Trek universe, and writers Peter David and Michael Jan Friedman. In addition to several celebrity guests, there will be workshops, an autograph party, a games room, photo opportunities, fan panels, a masquerade party, an art show, afternoon tea, a poker tournament, and a dealer’s room.
Workshop topics will include writing and model building. Dealers already confirmed include J&J Collectibles and NextGen Toys. Tables in the dealers’ room are available for $195 or $250. Those planning to sell merchandise at Shore Leave might want to work with Hunt Valley printing companies to help them prepare. Printing companies can provide all they need to sell including, price labels, signs, and banners.
Science fiction and fantasy seem to become more popular every year, probably partly due to the several Star Trek and Star Wars movies, various television shows, and the recent rebirth of vampires via the Twilight series of books and movies. Conventions like Shore Leave give fans an opportunity to celebrate their favorite characters and for some of them to dress up in costume. They offer a great way to escape the daily routine of life and to celebrate with those who feel the same way they do.
