WolfCryer to get Newport stomping

November 27, 2012 by

The Original Hillbilly Thursday provides adult audiences with some straight-shooting country, bluegrass, old-fashioned hillbilly, and Americana, with each week focusing on a different artist. This week’s artist is Wolfcryer, who is bound to astound the audience with his one man showcase. Guest will enjoy this performer, and perhaps poster printing will be in order from fans looking for merchandise.

WolfCryer is an Americana singer and songwriter from St. Louis, Missouri. With the real name Matt Baumann, WolfCryer is a one-man band and a wizard on the four-string plectrum banjo, harmonica, and guitar, and then he adds his soulful vocals. The artist was influenced by the likes of William Elliot Whitmore, Dink Roberts, Joe Purdy, and Justin Townes Earle and, throughout his career, his music has adapted to blend a rich and melodic combination from all of these artists.

As a former jazz and classical musician, the talented artist quit after 20 years to spend the time teaching himself how to play the four-string instruments he uses today, before resuming his folk career. Baumann previously played the saxophone. Today, Noble Oaks Records carries his record label.

Admission is free, but it is an over 21 event, so ID is required. WolfCryer will be performing this Thursday, November 29, starting at 10:00 pm at The Southgate House Revival, The Lounge, located at 111 E. Sixth Street in Newport, Kentucky, just down the road from Southgate. For additional details, please visit The Southgate House Revival website or call 859-431-2201.
