Equine-themed ‘Evening Under the Stars’ planned for Placentia

May 26, 2017 by

A local not-for-profit organization has planned a fundraiser, and it is hoping the community will show its support.

Tara’s Chance is a Placentia-area group that brings together people with developmental and cognitive issues with gentle horses that have been specially trained for this work.

During Evening Under the Stars, guests will be able to relax while they enjoy a special supper prepared just for the event by Bourbon Street Restaurant. There will also be both silent and live auctions where the attendees can bid on an assortment of prizes, as well as a cork pull for a selection of wines. A local printing services provider will be able to use graphic design techniques to produce specially designed decorations for a function such as this.

According to the organizers, the highlight of the evening will be a performance by Tara’s Chance Riders. The monies raised will be used to help care for and feed the horses in the program, and also to help meet the needs of the Tara’s Chance scholarship fund. Donations to the cause from those who want to help but could not attend in person will also be greatly appreciated.

The evening has been planned for July 22 at the Laguna Lake Park Equestrian Center. More details have been made available on the Tara’s Chance website.

Annual car show to pay remembrance

August 24, 2016 by

The 7th annual La Habra Highlander Car Show is taking place next month. It is a presentation of Band Boosters of La Habra High School, which raises funds for the marching band.

The day is set to feature a remembrance ceremony for the events of 9/11 and Patriots Day. There will also be a drumline and color guard parade, a marching band, and bagpipes. There will be musical entertainment, raffles and food and drink for purchase.

Over 60 vendors are expected to be on hand to sell food and merchandise. Spaces are still available and cost $55 for a 10 x 10-foot booth. For the kids, there will be carnival games and police vehicle and fire truck displays.

Of course, the main draw of the day is the car show. The registration fee is $30 and participants will receive a dash plaque, a T-shirt, and the goodie bag. All types of cars are welcome and they will be competing for prizes in 18 categories, including Best of Show, Best Ford, Best Paint, and Best Hot Rod.

Flyers will likely be distributed around the area, including to nearby Placentia, to attract visitors to this fundraising event.

The La Habra Highlander Car Show will be held at Whittier Blvd. and Idaho Street on September 10 from 9:00 AM to 2:00 PM. For more information, visit the event website.
