More than 2,500 jobs coming to Petaluma
May 13, 2013 by Mark
A retail, housing and hotel development that was recently proposed to the City of Petaluma could bring over 2,500 jobs to the area.
The development, proposed by Basin Street Properties and referred to as ‘Riverfront’, would be constructed beside the Petaluma River. The proposed project would add approximately 520 full-time jobs with its various offices, restaurants, hotel, retail stores and apartments. The construction of the project would create almost 2,000 temporary jobs as well.
In a meeting early this month, labor leaders and Petaluma City Council members advised Basin Street Properties to guarantee that those jobs will all be filled locally. Carl Sanchez of the Local 104 Sheet Metal Workers, urged:
“Seek guarantees that those jobs stay here and are at area-standard wages.”
Bill White, company chairman for Basin Street Properties, responded:
“I hear what’s been said here tonight. We have always prided ourselves on using a lot of local labor, and intend to continue doing that.”
When large developments such as the Riverfront project occur in an area, a large number of printing services are likely to be needed from local print companies once businesses move into the area. Catalog printing, business card printing and stationery printing are just a couple of services likely to be required.
The Riverfront Development includes a commercial area of 90,000 square feet, 273 residential properties, a hotel with 120 units, and vacant property spanning seven acres located between Highway 101 and the river on Hopper Street.
