The Colony makes holiday triple play

November 19, 2016 by

The Colony Parks and Recreation Department is looking to start the holiday off with a bang as it offers three different events to open up the season.

Holiday in the Park/Parade of Lights/Baking Contest is a triple threat of yuletide cheer, offering a full day of activities around the city.

The central hub of the day is the Holiday in the Park. Held in Perryman Park, the event will have several live musical performances, as well as festive carols that visitors are welcome to sing along to. A crafting station will also be set up where attendees can make their own holiday cards and ornaments.

During this event, the traditional Holiday Baking Contest will be held. It will pit Colony residents against each other to see who can make the best of several sweet traditional goods, including gingerbread. No prizes have been announced yet.

The Parade of Lights will start at Peters Colony Elementary and wind its way through town, ending at the Five Star Complex. All floats will be fitted with lights and prizes will be awarded on several categories, including best use of theme, best use of lights, and best overall.

Around the town, there will also be pictures with Santa at the Library and the kickoff of the Colony Christmas Spectacular light show at the Central Fire Station.

The Holiday in the Park begins on December 3 at 6:00 pm at 4930 S. Colony Blvd. The Parade will run along Nash and Blair Oaks and starts at 5:45 pm. For a full list of all activities and where to find them, contact the Parks and Rec Department directly.
