Sweet taste of Sugar Land to be showcased

Aspiring sommeliers, haute cuisine aficionados, or just anyone who enjoys fine food, good wine, and pleasant company are all welcome at this year’s Sugar Land Wine and Food Affair taking place in April.

Wine, cocktail, and food tastings are the star attractions in this epicure’s dream event, rounded out by auctions, live music, and educational wine and spirit seminars. Guests can buy a ticket for one day or the whole show at the events website.

Poster printing for the festival is once again focused on a work by Alison Merriweather, a Houston native and nationally exhibited artist. Her previous printings for the festival, in her distinctive folk-influenced, color-saturated style, are also available.

The Affair will commence on Thursday, April 25 with the ‘On the Rocks Bartender’s Challenge’ – a cocktail competition featuring the best Texas mixologists vying for the favor of a panel of celebrity judges.

Friday will be devoted to the Grand Tasting, at the Sugar Land Marriott, featuring the culinary creations of nationally recognized chefs paired with succulent and coveted wines from every corner of the world. The concurrent, silent Grand Auction will allow guests to bid on a variety of wines, trips, and vacations, as well as fine restaurant vouchers and local art.

Saturday will feature the Sip & Stroll at the Imperial Char House/Three Bay Warehouse. Local fine artisans and musicians will share the historic old Imperial Sugar Factory with sample displays from over 80 Houston-area restaurants and wineries, complete with cooking and drink-mixing demonstrations.

Finishing with Sunday’s Bistro Brunch, this should be a fitting finale to what is sure to be a memorable gastronomic odyssey.
