Georgetown gobbles up turkey trot

November 2, 2016 by

This Thanksgiving, residents in Georgetown will have the opportunity to work off some of the mashed potatoes and stuffing they are planning to eat at the Georgetown Turkey Trot.

The event is an untimed race through the roads and trails of the city, all with the aim of helping local charities.

There are two different routes possible for interested participants: a five-mile run/walk and a one-mile walk. The courses are set on open routes through town, so even strollers are welcome at the race. The event is not officially timed, but a digital timer will provide competitors with an unofficial time at the finish line. The top five male and female finishers in four different age categories will receive an award after the race is over.

Additionally, a Kids Fun Run will be held shortly before the race. All children who participate will receive a ribbon. Long-sleeved T-shirts featuring the logo design of the Turkey Trot will be given out to everyone registered by November 6, and while supplies last to later registrants.

Proceeds from the event go to support Williamson County Meals on Wheels and Friends of Georgetown Parks and Recreation. Event organizers are aiming to raise at least $1,000 for charity with the race.

The Georgetown Turkey Trot will be held on November 24 starting at 8:00 am at 701 S. Main St. Registration is $30 a person and should be completed online.
