Forney residents volunteer to help Dallas Stair Climb

Two residents of Forney have been promoted to position of Section Chief for this year’s Dallas 9/11 Memorial Stair Climb. Shannon Pilgrim and Jason McClaren are volunteers at the event which will be held on September 8 2012 at Renaissance Tower, Dallas.

The Dallas Stair Climb takes place annually to pay tribute and remember the fire-fighters who sacrificed their lives while ascending the stairs of the Trade Center. America vowed to “never forget” September 11 2001, when the attacks by terrorists took place. Dallas and North Texas fire-fighters will take part in the climb to represent the New York fire-fighters who lost their lives while climbing the stairs of the Trade Center.

In 2011, the Renaissance Tower was secured for the event, which is the workplace of Shannon Pilgrim. During a planning meeting, Pilgrim attended after reading information on a flyer, possibly produced by a local printing company, offering her services as a volunteer. Last year Pilgrim was a logistics coordinator, just one position out of 343 climbers, more than 150 volunteers and 30 alternates who made the event possible. This year, Pilgrim has been promoted to Section Chief, responsible for five or six coordinators who will have to report to her. Each climber is assigned with the name of a fire-fighter who died before all climbing to the top and arriving together. Last year the event raised around $145,000 which was donated to the Twin Towers Orphan fund, Texas Line of Duty Death Task Force and the National Fallen Fire-fighters Foundation.
