Former Miss Dallas crowned Miss Texas

Miss Texas 2012, held at the start of July at the Allen Event Center, marked the very first time the pageant had been held there. For the last three years, the event has been held at the University of Texas at Arlington. However, the executive director of the Miss Texas Organization, Michelle Metzger, assisted in a move away from its previous location to Allen. It is hoped that the move has been beneficial to the families of entrants and the local economy.
Danae Couch, who was previously crowned Miss Dallas, was named Miss Texas at the Allen Event Center. Danae will now travel to Paradise, Nevada to compete in the Miss America pageant, which takes place in January 2013. According to estimates of the event, the final night received over 2000 ticket receipts, taking over half the available seating.
The move to Allen was announced in March 2012 and came with huge challenges, including building a stage. According to Metzger, the new location for the event added extra convenience for families. They could stay at the Marriot Courtyard, which was within a short walking distance. Retail opportunities were plentiful around the event location, providing convenience for the families and a boost for the local economy.
The new location was promoted well before the event was due to take place, possibly using the poster printing services of a local printing company. Initial reports suggest that hotel occupancy increased and business at local restaurants and retailers increased significantly, although a formal report is due to be released.
