McKinney can’t wait for Oktoberfest
September 26, 2012 by Mark
Despite its name, Oktoberfest comes by a few days early this year as Texans meet Bavarian culture in the Historic Downtown of McKinney.
The event begins this Friday, September 28, and features non-stop events in the heart of this wonderful city celebrating a tradition that started 200 years ago in Germany. This open and generous celebration features glowing hospitality, authentic beer from Germany, local brewers, wine, and tons of German cuisine. Besides these activities, there will be interactive children’s activities, including a petting zoo, arts, crafts, and face painting. Adults will enjoy traditional music, dance, costumes, food, and drink. Guests will think they just arrived in little Germany and are enjoying everything that is authentic. This all takes place on the main street in downtown McKinney and is sponsored by the various shops and stores there.
Guests will sample plenty of ‘Gemutlichkeit’ – a German word meaning an atmosphere that is warm, generous, and inviting, filled with grand hospitality. This is a fun and friendly family event, so the kids are welcome come out to enjoy it.
Poster printing and flyer printing were probably the chosen method to promote this German-themed celebration to members of the community and those in surrounding areas. This festival takes place this weekend on both Friday and Saturday. Admission is free and there will be something for everybody. To find out more about the Oktoberfest celebration, please visit the McKinney Oktoberfest website, or call the City of McKinney during business hours.
