Allen Parks and Recreation recognized for excellence
March 31, 2014 by Max
The Texas Recreation and Park Society (TRAPS) select organizations and individuals to recognize each year for their contribution to parks and recreation, with honors covering a wide array of topics. For 2014, 105 nominations were considered this month, and the City of Allen received their Media Excellence Award for its work in promoting the city’s parks.
The award received by the city’s Parks and Recreation Department was shared with Allen City Television in recognition for its Rec X Television Series and Play Music Video. This award is reserved for parks and recreational agencies, as well as media outlets, who deliver superior coverage of events, facilities, programs, and issues concerning parks or recreational affairs. The award-winning program featured the internationally recognized Flula and provided a new and fun way for the city to communicate its Parks and Recreation Month theme.
Also honored by TRAPS was Jim Waldbauer, an Allen resident. Waldbauer was awarded the Outstanding Individual Service Award for 2014. He had recently been honored for his more than two decades of volunteerism in Allen by our city council. His nomination came from the city’s Park and Recreation Department for his leadership role in the creation of the Allen Parks Foundation.
Literature promoting a community usually includes this type of award when possible. Print companies can use this sort of information to encourage investment in a city.
