Last Saturday, the Tucson Police Officer Association in collaboration with the Target store on Oracle Road held its annual Kids and Cops event, designed to bring some Christmas cheer and spirit to families with underprivileged children in the city. No doubt the Association used methods like flyer printing and poster printing to let those in need become aware of the event.
Santa and Mrs. Claus greeted the 300 children lined up outside the store early in the morning, as 150 police officers waited inside to help the children their shopping. Each child was given $100 to spend and was accompanied by an officer from the Tucson police to assist them.
According to Officer William Bonnano, president of the Tucson Police Officer Association, each police representative who participates in the event is doing it on their own time but is always happy to be able to serve the community in this way.
Tucson Police Officer Ysela Welding added that this event shows the positive efforts the local police makes to the community and helps the children to enjoy this time of the year
In addition to the shopping, the Tucson Police Canine Unit and SWAT Unit gave demonstrations and a party bus was provided by Allison’s Limousine Service for face painting and the making of balloon animals. Music was also provided by the students of the Roskruge Middle School and Davis Elementary School. The event was made possible by various donations from the community.
