Triathlon racing into Tempe

September 18, 2013 by

Both experienced and amateur athletes are invited to participate in an annual triathlon event in Tempe.

This coming weekend, the Lifetime Fitness Tri arizona Series will be arriving in the city for the eighth year in a row. Stationery printers may be experiencing a rise in business as the sponsors and organizers of this competition maintain correspondence before the festivities unfold.

Participants will be able to choose from sprint, international, relay, and paratriathlete races. Although all of these competitions will include a lake swim, a bike ride, and a run, they will vary in length and intensity. The paratriathlete race will accommodate contenders who have physical disabilities.

Attendees new to the triathlon experience will be encouraged to take part in a race designed for first-timers. This option will also be open to more seasoned triathlon participants who wish to enjoy a less strenuous morning of activities.

Prizes will be awarded to the three top-performing athletes in each age category. Participants will all receive T-shirts and free one-year magazine subscriptions when they register for the triathlon. Those under 18 will be welcome to participate, but will need a parent’s written permission.

Sponsors for this year’s event include the City of Tempe, Transamerica, and Toyota.

The Tempe triathlon is scheduled for Sunday, September 22 at 6:30 am. It will take place at Tempe Beach Park (80 West Rio Salado Parkway). Registration will cost $90 to $160, and proceeds from the event will benefit local charity organizations.
