Gilbert gearing up for multicultural festival
April 7, 2013 by Sarah
Gilbert area residents will soon have the opportunity to experience a host of international cultures without wandering far from home.
Next weekend, the town will be holding its ninth annual Global Village Festival. Printing companies are likely seeing extra business as the parties behind this event place orders for banners, posters, and flyers.
The family-friendly celebration will feature entertainment and activities for all ages. Some of its highlights will include multiple performances from an African drum ensemble, Mexican folkloric dancing, and a ‘Parade of Nations’ featuring children in traditional costumes from around the world.
Attendees will have a chance to meander through a large setup of booths and learn about the history and customs of various nations. They will also be able to sample a number of ethnic dishes and purchase handmade jewelry and artwork. In addition, they will have an opportunity to discover the fundamentals of English cricket and watch several demonstrations of Korean martial arts techniques.
The Global Village Festival will also feature a ‘World Religion tent’. Here, representatives from a wide range of faiths will be on hand to educate the public about their belief systems. Those who attend this portion of the event will be welcome to ask any questions they may have.
The multicultural festival will take place on Saturday, April 13 at 50 East Civic Center Drive. It will run from 3:00 pm to 8:00 pm. The organizers of the event are still accepting volunteers to help prepare and dismantle the booths. Those who would like more information may call (480) 503-6871.
