New South Charleston shop gives wine-lovers a taster

To help customers discover new wines without the risk of spending money on something they turn out not to like, a newly-opened wine shop is letting customers try before they buy.
The tastings at South Charleston Wine Shoppe take place every Friday from noon until 6pm. Each week, the wine shop offers a new selection of wines to sample. Before the tastings, the owners of the store announce that week’s wines on the store’s Facebook page. The list of samples also includes tasting notes and a description of the wines.
The wine shop was opened by Marilyn Pauley and her mother, Betty Szczutkowski. Pauley previously worked as wine administrator for the state’s Alcohol Beverage Control. The new store could make use of stationery printing, as many of the wines on its shelves have printed tasting notes next to them to let customers know what to expect.
Pauley said that she seeks to give her customers a wider range of options when it comes to wine. The South Charleston Wine Shoppe is stocked with wines she personally enjoys, as well as those recommended as top sellers by distributors. Pauley aims to offer more wines than people can find in grocery stores, and the selection is constantly evolving. The store adds new wines on a regular basis and takes requests from customers.
The shop is located at 342 MacCorkle Avenue in South Charleston. It is open six days a week, from Monday to Saturday, from 11:00 am until 7:00 pm.
