At the Miss South Carolina Pageant set to be held in Columbia at the Township Auditorium this Saturday, July 14, will be Desiree Johnson from Anderson County, South Carolina, the valedictorian of the 2010 class of Westside High School. The County is no doubt using poster printing and flyer printing to announce the event and encourage the public to attend and support Johnson, who already holds the title of Miss Anderson County.

48 women will be competing for the title of Miss South Carolina, which also comes with a scholarship of $5,000 and the ability to participate in the Miss America competition in Las Vegas.

Johnson, 20, is majoring in chemistry at Winthrop University, where she is a sophomore. She is involved with honors programs and research at undergraduate level and is a campus fitness instructor. Being Miss Anderson County and as part of her interest in fitness, she has spoken with public school students about keeping fit and has been involved in many local fundraisers and non-profit organizations that promote physical fitness. At the competition, her platform will focus on physical fitness. For the talent portion of the competition, she will be playing the piano.

Various activities for the pageant began last Saturday and are continuing through the week. Johnson has said she is very excited about the activities and has a large group of people supporting her. Her mother and father are currently with her, along with her cousin and two girls who she mentored this past year.
