New grocery store ‘Sprouts’ in Raleigh

Sprouts Farmers Market, a grocery store that specializes in fresh produce, is opening its first North Carolina store in Raleigh.

Sprouts is the anchor tenant in the Olive Park shopping center, a new complex in North Raleigh that also houses stores like SuperCuts, Hallmark, and Bad Daddy’s Burger Bar.

Sprouts comprises 30,000 square feet, and offers the traditional counters for seafood and meats, as well as a deli, bakery, wine, and beer. Sprouts offers many items under its own label, with everything from detergent to specialty teas available. Patrons can also buy in bulk, but it is the produce, which is arranged in rows in the middle of the store, that the store places special emphasis on.

Company spokeswoman Erin Miller said that produce makes up about one-quarter of Sprouts’ sales, and is at the heart of the market’s efforts. The store has a display set up showing the number of different types of produce offered at a specific time. For opening day, there are 201 varieties available.

Sprouts is based in Phoenix, and is only now moving to the East Coast. In addition to this new location, it has stores in Atlanta and Tampa. At the moment, Sprouts is bringing in most of its produce from outside the area, but as it builds relationships, it will start sourcing many of its products locally.

Events like this can benefit if organizers use banners to create a festive atmosphere.
