Festival to help introduce children to the joys of theater

WonderFest is coming to the area next month for three weekends.

The festival will be presenting three plays for children on subsequent weeks.

Goldilocks and the Three Bears was written by Mark Sutton, and gives a slightly different version of the popular fairy tale recommended for children from pre-school up to the age of six.

Commedia Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs is for children aged six and up. The story is that a troupe of actors is putting on the play, and it will feature plenty of slapstick comedy.

New Kid was written by Dennis Foon and is recommended for children aged eight and over. It tells the story of a child who has recently immigrated to America.

All of the plays will have ASL interpreted performances for the hearing impaired.

In addition, the festival will feature readings of the finalist in the Young Playwrights for Change contest and other activities.

Parents from all over the area, including from nearby Pineville, no doubt will want to take their children to at least one performance. Flyers will likely be distributed to advertise the festival.

WonderFest will take place on weekends from January 14 to 29 at the Wells Fargo Playhouse. Ticket prices range from $12 up to $24. To learn more about the festival and the plays being presented, call 704-973-2828.
