Twelve locations of Charlotte library system to see expanded hours

January 18, 2013 by

The Charlotte Mecklenburg Library system, recently announced that its 12 community libraries, including the one located in Matthews, North Carolina, will be increasing the hours they will be open, as well as simplifying them.

Flyer printing and poster printing has no doubt been used by the library system to make the public aware of these new hours, so they take best advantage of them. According to the Director of Libraries, David Singleton, the feedback from the users of the library system has been that they are confused by the current schedule and that they are looking for more hours. The new hours established will help to normalize the schedule and improve access to the libraries’ resources.

The 12 community libraries (based in Matthews, Myers Park, Scaleybark, Hickory Grove, Mint Hill, Cornelius, Davidson, West Boulevard, Plaza Midwood, Sugar Creek, Mountain Island and Steel Creek) currently close at 7:00 pm on Tuesdays and Wednesdays and are closed on Mondays. The new hours will include a full fifth day, beginning on April 1 this year, which will make the new hours of the library from 10:00 am to 8:00 pm on Mondays, Tuesdays and Wednesdays and 10:00 am to 5:00 pm on Fridays and Saturdays.

These new hours will bring the number of hours that the library system is open to about 62% of the hours it was open during its peak of operations in January 2010. The Library has consulted with the Mecklenburg County leadership and determined that there are sufficient funds in the budget of the Library for fiscal year 2013 to fund the expanded hours.
