Come see, sip and sleigh ride in Fuquay-Varina
December 2, 2013 by Mark
The Town of Fuquay-Varina’s Parks and Recreation Department is inviting all FV Christmas enthusiasts to its upcoming Town Christmas Tree Lighting ceremony, with its accompanying sleigh rides, hot chocolate and festive entertainment.
Soon the historic Fuquay District, will light-up like a Christmas tree. In fact, it will be lit-up by a Christmas tree—an event that has become the traditional launch of FV’s holiday season.
After the lighting, holiday music and dance will be provided by FV’s elementary, middle, and high schools and the Center Stage Dance Team.
Any promotion poster printing for the event will no doubt be pointing out that free sleigh rides will be in full swing, taking revelers on a five minute ride through downtown FV. Although the ride is free, Fuquay-Varina Downtown asks that passengers bring a canned food item as their “ticket to ride”. These “tickets” will be donated to Fuquay-Varina Emergency Food Pantry.
The line to ride cues up at 5:30 pm and begins at TR Ashworth. As it grows, it will continue down the sidewalks of Main and Depot. Although this is technically a first-come, first-ride venture, those businesses and individuals that have “fast pass friend tickets” get bumped up to the front of the line. (These tickets are passed out to those who have contributed to FV’s Downtown Revitalization Association). Riders aged two and under will need an adult lap to sit on during the trip. The last sleigh ride begins at 7:55 pm.
The event will be held this Thursday, December 5, 6:00 pm to 8:30 pm at the Municipal Parking Lot at the corner of E. Vance and Main Streets.
