Last book sale scheduled before Main Library renovations

An upcoming book sale, while not the final one ever at the Durham Main Library, will be the last one for the remaining two years of the library’s renovations

Minor, preliminary work has been carried out at the library, which closed earlier this month, and more in-depth work is set to begin soon. However, first the Friends of the Durham County library will use part of the Main Library’s first floor for a book sale.

The Friends organization has been in the habit of holding book sales in the spring and fall. This year’s unusual winter sale will enable a reduction in inventory, making the move to a temporary location in Northgate Mall on February 15 easier. Additionally, the move will allow book sales to be held more often during the renovations.

Usually, Friends organization members enjoy the perk of a Friday afternoon sale, and this feature is a main selling point for membership. Organizations view libraries as an ideal location for placement of flyers and brochures promoting their group or events.

The sale will be held 10:00 am to 4:00 pm this Saturday, February 11 and 1:00 pm to 4:00 pm on Sunday, February 12, and is open to the public. The revamped library, which will include a more open floor plan and new entrance, is set to open to the public in 2019.
