Charlotte to walk down ‘Yellow Brick Road’

April 1, 2014 by

Charlotte residents can get their hearts pumping while supporting a good cause.

Designed for families, the Yellow Brick Road is a two-and-a-half-mile walk through a lovely neighborhood. Charlotte Family Housing is hosting the event. The organization hopes to help working families without a home to become self-sustaining and end the sometimes cyclical nature of poverty. In addition, the walk aims to inform the public about homeless families.

Interested participants can register on the Charlotte Family Yellow Brick Road website. Registration is free. However, walkers are encouraged to raise money and make a fundraising goal. Anyone who raises $100 or more will be given a Yellow Brick Road shirt. Other ways to contribute include sponsoring or volunteering for the event, or taking part in a raffle with prizes such as jewelry and gift cards.

Sponsors can make various monetary donations to support the organization. Depending on their donation, sponsors may have their name put on T-shirts, ‘event day’ banners, and various media outlets. It is likely the event organizers have utilized printing services to create banners and other signs for the walk.

The event takes place on April 6 from 2:00 pm to 5:00 pm. It will end at The Plaza Place Shelter located at 2410 The Plaza in Charlotte. After the walk, there will be festivities geared towards families. For more information, call (704) 335-5488 and select option #2.
